I am not a big fan of exercise. I try and eat healthy and walk but that is about it. I have been having a lot of issues in the last 6 months with a neck/shoulder problem and have tried physical therapy, heat, and muscle relaxers with no luck. I decided that maybe Yoga is the answer and was thrilled to be accepted as a reviewer for the Aurorae Yoga Company. I am completely UNBENDABLE so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started working out but I was pleasantly pleased that yoga is not as hard as I thought it was! (of course, I am using a beginner routine…I’m sure it gets MUCH harder!)
So, if you are not familiar with yoga, one of the first things you need is a mat. This helps cushion you and keep you from slipping in some of the poses. You can see all the product specifications of the Aurorae Yoga mat HERE but the thing I loved about it was that it is extra long. I may have to share this lovely mat with my husband and he is 6 foot 3 inches tall. The mat has a focal point at one end that helps when trying to hold your balance. It is also free of phlathates, which is nice to know considering how much time you spend laying on top of it!
Considering how little MOVEMENT is actually done during yoga (its not like you are running laps around a track!) I was amazed at how much of a sweat I worked up! Of course, sweat can make for slippery surfaces and Aurorae offers a great slip free package that includes a rosin bag that you can pat onto hands and feet and a no slip towel. I thought the rosin worked pretty well. I mainly used the towel for wiping my forehead and not placing under me during the workout but you could put it under hands or feet to prevent slipping.
By far, the most useful thing I received to review was the yoga strap. One of the moves I had to do was to lay on my back, feet to the air, and grab my toes to stretch my hamstrings..yeah…I can’t come anywhere NEAR my toes while laying on my back with my knees straight! But this strap helps you maintain the proper positioning while still getting a good stretch.
I am hoping that if I keep up the yoga with some consistency that maybe the neck and shoulder issues will go away. Even if they don’t, I need to get in better shape and build more muscle and I was amazed at how sore I was even after only a few days. It is getting easier, though, as I learn all the moves and gain some strength. I have had a great experience with the Aurorae yoga products.
My thanks to Aurorae Yoga for allowing me to review their products.
