I have a tendency to change my perfumes to suit not only my moods but also the seasons. In the winter I lean towards warmer scents…heaver spices and woodsy scents that remind me of fallen leaves. In the spring and summer I tend to move to lighter scents that bring to mind cool spring mornings and walks on the beach. These are usually based on light florals, citrus, or other light fragrances. I recently got the chance to try a new perfume from Bellyflowers Botanical Perfumes and I think that it is perfect for the upcoming warm weather season! Here is a little bit about Elise, the creator of Bellyflowers perfumes:
Elise Pearlstine is the Nose of BellyFlowers Perfumes. She has been learning about and creating natural perfumes since about 2004. She has studied with both Anya McCoy (President of the Natural Perfumers Guild) and Mandy Aftel (founder of Aftelier Perfumery and natural perfumery pioneer), learning much from both perfumers. Elise has created a number of highly acclaimed perfumes and participated in two perfume projects with the Natural Perfumers Guild where she is an active member and Guild Manager.
I have worked with Bellyflowers a few times in the past and I really love that these perfumes use only natural botanical ingredients and a few animal-derived substances such as beeswax. The scents are derived from essential oils and natural plant essences that are extracted using organic solvents. Natural perfumes are likely to trigger allergy and asthma symptoms compared to synthetic blends.
For my review, I received a bottle of the Sun & Flowers perfume to try. According to Elise, the inspiration for this perfume is a beautiful late spring day in southern Florida. Think of this as a blend of summery florals and citrus scents. The fragrances of neroli, tuberose and white lotus are at the heart of this blend with a base of frankincense and vetiver.
My Opinion: When first applied, the fragrance has a spiciness to it which fades after a short while and really lets the citrus shine through. That is the scent I smell predominantly until a couple hours later as it starts to fade a bit and I start noticing a lighter, more floral note. I think Elise did a great job creating a blend that is balanced between floral and a spicy citrus note.
WIN IT:
