Heatlth Benefits of Chia Seeds and a Salba Chia Giveaway

Heatlth Benefits of Chia Seeds and a Salba Chia Giveaway

I am always looking for creative ways to boost my family’s nutrition intake.  I make tons of smoothies where I can add in flax seed oil.  My baked goods are hiding things like chia seeds, wheat germ, and all sorts of other nutritious ingredients. I have recently been reading about chia seed health benefits.  These tiny little seeds can really pack quite a bit of a nutritional punch when added to your diet.  Chia is a flowering plant in the mint family and is commonly found in central and southern Mexico and Guatemala.  Historians have indicated that the Aztecs knew all about chia seed health benefits and used it in their own diet centuries ago. So, what are these chia seed health benefits?  Here are just a few reasons to add chia seeds to your family’s diet:

chia seeds from salba chia

Chia Seeds from Salba Smart

I received a nice selection of Salba chia seeds from Salba Smart to try out for myself.  What exactly is a salba chia?  It is a little different than a traditional chia seed.  Salba chia is the most nutrient dense form of chia seed available, and the richest whole food source of Omega-3 fatty acids and fiber found in nature.  It is almost all white, as opposed to ‘traditional’ chia which is a blend of black and white chia seeds.  This makes it easier to blend into your favorite recipes without being noticed too much. They are also higher in protein and omegas when compared with most other blends of chia seeds.  The Salba Smart chia seeds that I received are grown using organic practices in South America and are Non-GMO Project Verified.

Salba Smart offers a number of different Salba Chia products including whole and ground seeds.  You can choose bags, jars or individual serving size packages of each depending on your personal preferences.  I received ground chia seeds, whole chia seeds and very unique chia salsa to try out.  They even offer a chia tortilla chip which is a great way to boost the nutrition of your evening snack.

I was really surprised at the totally white seeds!  All of the chia I have seen in the past have been primarily black with only a few white seeds scattered in.  If you have a picky eater who really examines their food closely before eating, these are a lot easier to hide.  The small, individual packets come in handy if you only use them occasionally. They are also perfect to keep in your purse or your desk at work for on the go nutrition.  The salsa ingredients are very simple.  It is certified organic and contains only natural ingredients like tomatoes, garlic, cilantro, onion, etc.  It comes in mild, medium and hot depending on your own tastes.

Pumpkin Chia homemade muffins

I am really impressed with the Salba chia seed products I got from Salba Smart.  I love that they are non GMO project certified and many of their products are also  certified organic.  I used both the ground and whole seeds to make some Pumpkin Chia Muffins and they were a bit hit at breakfast.  I love that I can help my family start out their day with a little boost of nutrition.  If you are looking to improve your own family’s diet, I think the chia seeds from Salba Smart are a good first step!
