Healthier Fourth of July with Mango Relish #Recipe and Applegate Hotdogs!

This healthy fourth of July post is sponsored by Applegate but all opinions expressed are my own.

Summer is here and what better way to enjoy the hot weather than to send my husband outside to grill up our dinner! With cookouts, picnics, barbecues,  and parties, there will be a lot of hot dogs eaten in the next month. I don’t usually buy traditional hot dogs because, honestly, I am fairly concerned with what goes in them. There is always a ton of jokes about hot dog ingredients but have you ever read the ingredient label? For a healthier Fourth of July I really recommend you look into a natural hot dog like the ones I received from Applegate to try out with my family!

Applegate Hot Dogs for a Healthier Fourth of July!

Applegate hot dogs are simple: just beef, water, sea salt, and spices – and they have much less fat and sodium than other hot dogs. They’re made with meat  from animals never administered antibiotics or hormones and they  contain no artificial ingredients or preservatives. They are not filled with ‘Mystery Meat’ like many conventional hot dogs and are a great start to a healthy Fourth of July cookout. You can also choose from a number of different varieties including Organic, Grass Fed, Natural, rBGH Free, Gluten Free, or even Dairy Free. They also come in chicken, beef, turkey and a beef/pork combination so you can fit these natural hot dogs into your dietary needs. Applegate has committed to removing all GMO ingredients from their products (only 10 remaining) by the end of 2013. Of course, the hot dog is only the first part of the equation! What you put ON your hot dog matters too! If you pour fake orange cheese spread or canned chili on top of your dog you might want to reconsider your hot dog toppings for a healthy Fourth of July! I decided to get creative with a healthy hot dog topping this week and since I had a bowl of mangoes that were ripe I decided to make a mango relish. It came out delicious and was the perfect topping for my organic beef hot dogs from Applegate!

I tried a couple of different types of Applegate hot dogs this week and can honestly say that they were all delicious. I love the ‘snap’ of a natural casing hot dog and they were very flavorful without being super salty. Want to try them out AND save a few pennies? Applegate has recently launched their Wienervention app where you can send a Wienervention to a friend plagued by bad meat and receive a $2 coupon for their cleaner wieners. If you decide you want to top your Applegate hotdogs with some of this delicious mango relish for a healthy Fourth of July, here is the recipe!
