Sleep Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness with Estroven!

This breast cancer awareness conversation has been sponsored by Estroven and TapInfluence but all opinions expressed here are my own.

Over the years, I have known several women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Friends, acquaintances, family member….each diagnosis makes it all that more obvious that every single woman (and even men!) may be at risk of this disease. I finally got up the nerve to go for my first mammogram last year and will continue to get one regularly. For those of you who haven’t gotten one yet…It wasn’t bad! Yes, you have to stand there in a slightly vulnerable position while the technician squishes your lady parts into assorted directions but it was over quickly and didn’t hurt so go get one done! Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month it is the perfect time to pick up the phone and make your appointment!

While doing some reading about breast cancer awareness last week I was actually surprised to learn that 2/3 of women are diagnosed with breast cancer around the same time menopause symptoms usually start appearing. In fact, every year in the U.S., nearly 100,000 women between the ages of 45 and 64 are diagnosed with breast cancer. Not sure why that was an eye opener but I found it an interesting correlation. Estroven (a natural multi-symptom menopause relief supplement) would like to invite you to “Sleep Pink” in honor of breast cancer awareness. You and your friends, kids and family members can help raise funds for The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer during the entire month of Octoctober by hosting a pink-themed pajama party. Their goal is to support finding a cure for breast cancer and to advance access to care for everyone afflicted by this disease.

How can your Sleep Pink pajama party help make a difference? For each Sleep Pink pajama party photo submitted to the Sleep Pink Facebook page Estroven will make a $250 donation to benefit the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. And for every photo submitted of an individual in pink pajamas, Estroven will donate $100 to benefit the organization. That means just getting together with your girlfriends in your pink pajamas and sharing your photos can help find a cure for this horrible disease! In 2012, Estroven received photos from dozens of Sleep Pink parties hosted across the country and they wanted me to help spread the message with my own pink party!

This past weekend I had a few of my friends over for our own pink pajama party. We decided to make this a kid friendly and husband welcoming event with both pink and non pink drinks and snacks. Strawberry fruit dip, fresh watermelon and pink beverages were served up alongside the traditional beer and chips that the men were craving for their football game! I did convince my husband to don a pink shirt and my son showed up in his sister’s pink fuzzy socks! Fun was had by all and by uploading my pictures to the Estroven website I will be helping fund cancer research!

So, how about this weekend you grab that fuzzy pink bathrobe and encourage your friends to come over to sleep pink in honor of breast cancer awareness? If you need a little bit of inspiration, SleepPink.com has downloadable invitations, menopause-friendly drink and food recipe suggestions, as well as décor and entertainment ideas. Go ahead and sleep pink for a great cause this month!
