Credit monitoring is not the same as identity theft protection!

I am a LifeLock Ambassador and this identity theft post has been sponsored but all opinions expressed here are my own.

Last month I wrote about my experience with identity theft. Someone had used my personal information to open a fake bank account and bounced a $300 check. I was shocked! A business had disposed of my personal information incorrectly and as a result, I ended up with a huge hassle to deal with!

If I had identity theft protection at the time, I would have known the moment that account was opened! While credit monitoring is helpful, it could not have prevented the hassle I had to go through with police reports and paperwork!

Identity theft can result from a criminal dumpster diving for your old receipts, the installation of malware on your computer, or a number of other ways. There were 12.6 million victims of identity fraud in the U.S. in 2012!

LifeLock’s monitoring services protect your credit and personal information from identity theft and fraud, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. They don’t wait for your credit score to be affected to alert you to possible problems.

Since we are always on the go, LifeLock will make sure you are alerted immediately by sending emails, text alerts, or good old-fashioned phone calls. There is even a mobile app you can download to make on-the-go notifications easier.

Do You Have Identity Theft Protection?

I recently signed up for Life Lock Ultimate as part of my ambassadorship with LifeLock. It was incredibly easy to do and I am amazed at the level of protection LifeLock offers. They will contact the major credit bureaus on your behalf and help remove your name from mailing lists for pre-approved credit offers (a huge source of identity theft!).

Their services include monitoring of public records and court records….in case someone is using your identity as a get-out-of-jail-free card! They monitor your personal information for new credit and non-credit applications and address changes, but also search known criminal websites for illegal selling of your personal information.

Did you know that there are websites dedicated to selling email addresses and passwords and online account numbers? LifeLock will let you know if any of your information is found on those sites. That is something that credit monitoring cannot help with!

Of course, your credit score is important too and you NEED to monitor it! LifeLock Credit Score Manager™ will monitor all three major credit bureaus daily and notify you of any changes in your credit report. Today’s world is high-tech, on the go and always connected. LifeLock works hard to protect your identity so you can live life to the fullest without worrying about where your personal information is being used!

  1. Such an important thing to have. I have identity theft protection as does by husband. My moms identity was stolen many years ago, it impacted her life greatly. I learned from that experience that I needed it.

  2. We always check our credit reports 2-3 times a year, but it would be nice to have a service like this to do it for us all the time.
