Today was a very productive day! I exercised, cleaned the house, did laundry, ran errands…and NAPPED! My husband and I are big nappers…we send the kids off to ‘quiet time’ in their rooms on Saturday afternoon and grab a blanket and a book. A few minutes of reading, a 30 minute nap, and we are recharged…ready to go for a walk, make a good dinner, or watch a movie with the kids! Who says napping is just for babies?? Here are a few ‘nap facts’ from The National Sleep Foundation to encourage you to kick off your shoes and snuggle down for a quick cat nap!
1. A short nap of 20-30 minutes can help to improve mood, alertness and performance.
2. A study at NASA on sleepy pilots and astronauts found that a 40-minute nap improved performance by 34% and alertness 100%.
3. Napping has psychological benefits. It can provide an easy way to get some relaxation and rejuvenation.

I also came across a few studies that show that napping improves learning! As long as you take your nap early in the afternoon, you have less chance of interfering in nighttime sleep patterns!
So, don’t feel guilty next time you doze off in your chair! You are making yourself smarter, happier, and more productive!
