I attended a grand opening event at Sprouts Farmers Market and received promotional items to facilitate this healthy eating post but all opinions expressed are my own.

If you have been following my blog for a while you will have noticed that I have a weakness for food. Healthy eating is important to me (with the exception of my fondness for neon orange cheese products occasionally!) but it is not cheap. I tend to go WAY over budget when doing my weekly grocery shopping because fresh produce can be pricy. Up until this week I had never visited a Sprouts Farmers Market so when I got invited to attend their grand opening event, I was excited to see what sort of things they offered!

The first thing I learned about Sprouts Farmers Market is that they have a strong focus on fresh fruits and vegetables. According to Dave, our tour guide for the day, 25% of Sprouts Farmers Market sales is fresh produce. They want to offer the freshest, healthiest, and most inexpensive produce they possibly can and I was truly amazed at the selection. I love that they source their produce as locally and seasonally as possible. They have a wide range of organic produce and I even found a great selection of heirloom tomatoes. Sprouts Farmers Market is definitely THE place to shop if you are looking for great deals on produce with a low carbon footprint! Living in the peach state is nice when I can find local peaches for 48 cents a pound!

One thing I always have trouble finding at my ‘regular’ grocery store is a good selection of grass fed and organic meats. I buy some from a local farmer but too often I have purchased organic meat at a traditional chain grocery store only to realize it is not as fresh as it should be. Since the shoppers at Sprouts Farmers Market are more interested in this type of meat, the turnover is higher and thus the product is fresher. They also had quite a selection of cuts to choose from, unlike the other places I shop that have only one or two items to choose from. They had some great sales going on while I was there and I saw lots of people stocking up! I think there will be quite a bit of grilling going on this month!

Fresh eggs, organic orange juice, freshly made breads and natural snacks abound at Sprouts Farmers Market and if you are on a restricted diet they have a very clear labeling system that will show you which items are gluten free, which are diary free and even which items are GMO free for people who are trying to limit their exposure to genetically modified ingredients. You will not find many of the ‘classic’ brands you see on the shelves in most grocery stores but there are a few. Most of the products are geared towards people who are trying to live a more natural diet but there is enough variety available that even your ‘traditional consumer’ would be more than happy shopping at Sprouts Farmers Market. They are NOT a health food store…they are a grocery store geared towards healthy eating!

So, my favorite finds at Sprouts last week? I was truly in awe of their cheese selection. I am something of a cheese snob and firmly believe that EVERYTHING tastes better with cheese on top! The prices were inexpensive and the variety of cheeses to choose from was impressive. I was also impressed with the beer and wine selection, which offered many unique microbrews, several locally made wines, and a wide range of prices to fit every budget. I see a wine and cheese night coming up very soon! I love that they have a wide variety of bulk bins available, filled with an assortment of snacks, grains and dried foods. And your choice of eggs is phenomenal, whether you are looking for organic, free range, white, brown, large or small!

Honestly, I see myself shopping at Sprouts Farmer’s Market a LOT in the future and am very glad it is only 5 minutes from my house. The prices on their produce alone make it well worth the trip and if I can find a nice block of organic cheese and some red wine at the same time I am happy! 1. I love Sprouts! My dad goes to a bicycle shop that’s near a Sprouts, so he went in one day. He found great deals on fruit and told me I should visit it. We’re on a heart healthy diet, so we’re always looking for ways to save money and eat healthy. I go to Sprouts every week for their great prices on fruits, vegetables, and bulk items.

    • They are very good about labeling! They have little signs on things to let you know they are nut free, dairy free, gluten free, etc.
