The Best Holiday Gifts: Food, Family and Financial Security #GenworthUSA

This discussion about the best holiday gifts has been brought to you by Genworth and Brandfluential  but all opinions expressed here are my own.

The holidays are a special time of year and while I am often caught up in the chaos of shopping and baking I try to never forget the reason for the season. I have never been the type of person to ask for diamonds and fancy coats for Christmas. I don’t need a Lexus tied up in a bow or a trip to some exotic island. Okay, the exotic island sounds like fun but only if I can climb volcanoes and dine with the natives! One year my husband got me a toaster oven and honestly I was probably the happiest mom on the block that year! While a lot of people are maxing out their credit cards on gifts for friends and family, I would like to ask you to take a step back this year and give to others with thoughts of the future.

Best Holiday Gifts
The best holiday gifts are those that come from the heart. Gifts that were made by hand, purchased with thought, and given in love are the best gifts of all. Maybe that gift is a second hand book that you know your mom will love. Or maybe the best holiday gifts come from your kitchen like a tray of your dad’s favorite cookies. How about you give the gift of a monetary donation to a charity in your friend’s name? Those are gifts that may not be able to be wrapped but they will be remembered for many years to come. Much longer than that broken piece of plastic from the dollar store. Thoughtful gifts, given in love will not clutter up our homes or our planet for the next 100 years either. And most of the time, giving gifts like this means no worry about whether you have the right size or color!

Best Holiday Gifts come from the Heart!

One gift that you may consider giving this holiday season is the gift of financial security. College graduates, young newlyweds, new parents, or people buying their own homes might rather have a gift that will improve their financial well-being rather than a decorative piece of art or new kitchen gadget. Have you ever considered giving someone the gift of life insurance? It may seem like an odd choice of gift but life insurance will help secure the financial future of the rest of the family in the event of a tragedy.

Talking about life insurance can be unpleasant because the entire concept revolves around the idea that one day you will die. That is not something that most people want to talk about. But, no matter how hard you try to bury your head in the sand,  it is going to happen and you want to make sure your family is taken care of when it does. Many newlyweds and young parents can’t afford life insurance but securing a policy when you are young will get you the best rates.

I hope you find meaningful gifts to give this holiday season. And remember, sometimes the best holiday gifts are those that cannot be wrapped!

  2. Mmm chocolate!

My husband and I are working to get different savings established…retirement, kids college, etc. It’s a slow process, but I am confident we are moving in the right direction!!

  3. I would much prefer a handmade or second-hand gift to someone going beyond their means to buy me something. It’s the thought that really counts!
