I remember the day I bought my first organic product. It was not soon after I learned that I was pregnant with my son over 18 years ago. I had been doing some reading about the concerns over artificial growth hormones in milk on the unborn child. Right then and there I started buying organic milk and it is the one organic product that I have been buying consistently ever since.
Of course, being on a limited budget meant that not everything I ate could be organic. Unless I won the lottery, I would have to be happy with small changes to my diet rather than a huge overhaul in my eating plan. And that is when I started turning the clock back to a simpler way of feeding myself and my growing family.
Turning the Clock Back is a site devoted to teaching people to go green, get healthy and simplify their lives one step at a time. People often feel overwhelmed with choices when it comes to living a more healthy and eco-friendly life. As a result, they often give up without trying at all.
I want people to realize that we need to take baby steps on the road to going green and getting healthy. I hope that Turning the Clock Back will bring its followers information regarding natural living, cooking from scratch, getting healthier and spending quality time with family.
Of course, letting loose and enjoying some junk food and video games happens occasionally, too. Our time on this Earth is limited so enjoy every moment and don’t deny yourself a treat now and then!
I have a chaotic life that includes work, a husband, 2 kids, and more pets than I care to admit. I have a degree in Microbiology from the University of New Hampshire and am a nationally certified pharmacy technician.
My daughter Emily is 17 and is passionate about music, art, photography, and American Sign Language. She is currently applying to college and hopes to work with children as an occupational therapist after graduate school.
My son Drew has been an introverted science geek from the time he was a small child. He is now an introverted 19 year old majoring in linguistics at the University of Georgia. Since my husband and I are also introverted science geeks, I’m not surprised at all! He loves reading, tennis and (of course) playing video games. Both of my kids excel at academics and love driving me just a tad bit nuts!
I am passionate about the environment but refuse to give up my high tech toys. There will be no living off the land and wearing hand made hemp sandals. Unless you count my backyard garden and I am allowed to buy hemp sandals off Amazon. I don’t ride my bike to the store (way too far) or use ‘reusable toilet paper’ (ew!)
This blog is a realistic look at eating healthy and reducing your carbon footprint while still living in the modern world on a limited budget and without much free time.
Life is all about balance. I spend way too much money on organic milk and local, grass fed beef but have a horrible Cheetos addiction and occasionally give in to my Diet Coke craving. I am trying to step back and simplify my life in the hopes of improving myself and the world around me. I hope you find Turning the Clock Back to be a down to earth guide to going green and getting healthy one baby step at a time.
