The I Heart Trader Joe’s Vegetarian Cookbook

The I Heart Trader Joe’s Vegetarian Cookbook

My husband and I spend a small fortune on locally raised, grass fed meats from a local farmer.  One way we can afford to do this is by significantly cutting back on the amount of meat we eat.  There are a ton of creative ways to serve meals that are loaded with protein and flavor that use no meat at all.  Every household should have a vegetarian cookbook to refer to for one or two days of the week.  I was recently sent The I Love Trader Joe’s Vegetarian Cookbook: 150 Delicious and Healthy Recipes Using Foods from the World’s Greatest Grocery Store for review.  We love Trader Joe’s and I am always very impressed with the quality of their products.  Even if you don’t have a Trader Joe’s near you I recommend you check out this vegetarian cookbook because most of the recipes can be adapted with items you find at your regular grocery store or specialty food store.  If you are looking for a good vegetarian cookbook, here is some more information about it:

My Review:

I was really impressed with the variety of recipes included in the Trader Joe’s Vegetarian Cookbook.  There are chapters for everything from breakfast and salads to main dishes and casseroles.  The table of contents lists the page number where each chapter starts and then the first page of that chapter lists all of the recipes for that section which makes it easy to sort through the selection to find something that sounds good.  The recipes themselves are not too difficult and are given catchy, mouth watering names like Orange Creamsicle Coffee Cake and Root of the Earth Casserole.  I was getting hungry just reading through the recipes I could make!

What I really loved about this cookbook were the pictures.  The photography is really impressive and just about every other recipe has a bold, up close and vibrant looking picture to go with the ingredients and directions.  None of the recipes in this vegetarian cookbook are all too difficult to make which I really appreciate when I am in a hurry on a weeknight.

I also like that many of the recipes list vegan alternatives if you prefer to eat vegan.  Many of the recipes are already vegan and/or gluten free and are already labeled as such but if they aren’t the author makes recommendations as to how you can alter the recipe to your diet preferences.

Overall, if you are looking for a vegetarian cookbook to help you reduce your reliance on animal products I think this is a good choice.  Even if you don’t have a Trader Joe’s near you I think you will find a lot of creative ways to use this cookbook to help you eat a little less meat!
