Think About This Thursday
A billion is a very big number. A billion grains of sand would take up about 6 cubic feet. A teaspoon of good, rich soil can contain up to a billion bacteria. There are 90 billion probiotic bacteria in a cup of high quality yogurt. Think about this: If one billion people but their mind to something…what could we accomplish?
Earth Day is tomorrow, Friday, April 22, 2011. This is the 41st anniversary of the beginning of a grass roots effort to raise public awareness about the environment and inspire actions to clean it up. While laws, regulations, and politics obviously play a major role in protecting our environment, without the actions of individual people, we have a one in a billion chance of making a difference. Get the people involved, educate the children, AND write the laws, that is the way to success!
The Earth Day Network is sponsoring A Billion Acts of Green. Any individual or organization can register an Act of Green…it could be as small as riding your bike to work or as large as a community wide recycling event. Every act registered will be counted towards their goal of one billion actions. They would like to reach that goal by the time the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development meets in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
So, what will your part be in this campaign? Will you be one of the billion people taking action today? Or tomorrow? You can make a difference…even if it is a small one. Because EVERY action counts!

I try to do small things and changes. I think switching to cloth diapers is the biggest change we’ve made this year. There are plenty of not so great things I do, but yeah, if we all did just a little bit more green – it’d make a big difference!
Ohh thats interesting. I hadn’t heard of that yet. We went to our local Lowe’s today to get a free tree to plant. We have been doing more recycling. Plus we got a water filter so we drink from that instead of buying all those plastic bottles.
