Betty Lou’s Fruit Bars for healthy lunch box snacks!

Betty Lou’s Fruit Bars for healthy lunch box snacks!

With the kids back in school, I am having to do the 7 AM lunchbox packing again.  Since our school lunch program is absolutely atrocious they bring their lunches from home on most days.  At 7 AM when I am putting together their lunches, I don’t really want to stop to think too hard about what it is I am putting in there.  Grab and go works well that early in the morning. I was recently sent a selection of fruit bars from Betty Lou’s that has made healthy grab and go snacking extremely easy!  If you aren’t familiar with Betty Lou’s, here is some information about them from their website:

Every day at Betty Lou’s we challenge the notion that healthy, all-natural, gluten-free products have to compromise on taste. We’ve proven that the opposite can be true! Our delicious products have been made that way from the beginning and it’s what we do best!

Betty Lou’s offers a number of different types of products including protein drinks, fruit bars, cookies, and many specialty items.  I was amazed to find something called powdered peanut butter!   One thing I really like about the Betty Lou’s website is that you can search for products based on the type of diet you are trying to accommodate.  Whether you are looking for gluten free, vegan, dairy free, soy free or any number of other requirements you will find it easy to sort through the Betty Lou’s website to find what you need.  All of their products are GMO free and contain no trans fats.

Betty Lou’s Fruit Bars

For my review I was sent a box of the fruit bars in an assortment of flavors.  They do not contain any of the 8 major food allergens identified by the FDA and all sugars are from natural fruit and fruit juice.  The flavors they offer include Apple Cinnamon, Cherry, Apricot, Strawberry, and blueberry.  It comes as a box of twelve 2 oz bars.

My Opinion:  My family goes through a lot of soft fruit filled cereal bars so this is the sort of thing I really knew they would enjoy.  They are slightly more dense than your average fruit bar because they have more fruit filling in the middle.  I was really impressed with how much fruit they contained compared to the cereal bar exterior.  They are sweet, moist, and very tender.  I had to request that my children please stop inhaling them all so that I got a chance to try them out!  I enjoyed all the flavors I was sent and don’t really have a favorite.  If I hadn’t known they were gluten free I honestly would not have suspected it.  All in all, these were delicious and made it easy to offer a healthy snack to the kids.

Betty Lou’s Just Great Stuff bars

I was also sent a box of the organic Just Great Stuff bars in a variety of flavors.  You can choose from Organic Superberry Acai, Organic Fruit and Veggie Bar, Organic Chocolate Dream Greens, and Organic Cacao Acai Bar. They are all gluten free, organic and vegan as well.  They include an assortment of fruits and nuts for plenty of healthy carbohydrates, antioxidants and protein.

My opinion:  These are a little bit stickier than the fruit bars were and so they were a tad bit messier to eat.  However, they were incredibly tasty with a huge fruit flavor.  Each bar is about 1.5 ounces and is very dense.  One of these bars makes a nice, satisfying snack.  I think my favorite flavor  would have to be the Strawberry Acai bar…it was sweet but had a nice tangy-ness to it from the Acai.  It was a nice combination.  If you are looking for a filling snack with lots of antioxidants and nothing artificial I think these would be a good choice.
