Need Medical Advice? Try the Urgent Care App for Your Smartphone

This post about the Urgent Care app for your smartphone has been sponsored but all opinions expressed here are my own.

When I am not at home blogging for a living I work part time as a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician for a national drug store chain.  One of the things I spend an awful lot of time doing there is answering the  phone for people who need urgent care medical advice.  We get all sorts of questions about disease symptoms, medication allergies,  and a lot of ‘what do you think is wrong with me?’.  Many people do not have a primary doctor (or enough money to see them regularly) so they rely on our pharmacist for a lot of their urgent care needs.  We don’t mind doing it, either, but what happens when we go home?  Our pharmacy is not open 24/7.  Where can people go for urgent care advice in the middle of the night or on a Sunday?  If you need a reliable source of medical advice you may want to look into an app for your smart phone called the Urgent Care app by GreatCall.

urgent care

Urgent Care is a unique app that offers easy access to a nurse or doctor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  It also has a very detailed medical dictionary and medical symptom checker tool which is written in a way that is easy to understand, unlike many actual doctors! The information in the database comes from the National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention so you know you are getting accurate information.    Nurses can escalate your call to a board-certified physician if required.  The available medical professionals can give advice, diagnosis or even prescribe common medications for a wide range of conditions over the phone. Nurses and doctors are available in both English and Spanish and they don’t just want to hear about critical issues! You can call and ask dietary advice or other non urgent healthcare information.

When would you use the Urgent Care app on your smart phone?  Do any of these scenarios sound familiar?

  • Your calender is packed full and you just  don’t have time to get to the doctor
  • It is Christmas day and your doctor’s office isn’t open
  • Your kid has a fever and you don’t think it’s serious enough to go to the doctor but just want confirmation of whether it is/isnt
  • Maybe you have a problem of a ‘sensitive’ nature and want to ask an anonymous health question
  • You are visiting your family out of state and can’t get to your normal doctor OR  you’re traveling and need your prescription filled (these doctors can call in prescriptions for most common medications)
  • You currently don’t have insurance and/or don’t want to pay a doctor’s co-pay (each call is only $3.99)
  • You aren’t sure what’s wrong and need to look up a quick set of symptoms (there is a symptom checker tool)

The Urgent Care app is a great resource for anyone who is looking for reliable, round the clock medical advice when it is convenient for YOU.  Where do YOU turn for urgent care medical advice?

If you would like to download the Urgent Care app you can get it from iTunes for your Apple device or through the Google Play store for your Android device.
