My family spends a lot of time at the pool. Between play dates and swim team, we are up at the neighborhood pool every day, sometimes twice a day. This means we go through a lot of towels and sunscreen in my house, too. I am not a big fan of sunscreen in general but it is way better than the risk of skin cancer so it is kind of a necessity down here in the sunny south. I was recently sent a bottle of Marie Veronique Kid Safe Screen to review. If you are not familiar with Marie Veronique, here is some information about them from their website:

Marie Veronique offers not only sunscreen but also cleansers, moisturizers and many other natural skincare products. They offer a number of vegan products and all items are hand made in California. Their ingredients are organic, fair trade and locally sourced whenever possible.
For my review, I received the Kid Safe Screen. Last year, the Environmental Working Group declared Marie Veronique Organics’ Kids Safe Screen their top overall sunscreen pick. It does not contain parabens, petrochemicals, fragrances, waxes, fillers, silicones, dyes, or any other potentially toxic ingredients. It is also loaded with skin nourishing ingredients like avocado oil and mango butter.
So, my opinion? The active ingredient in this product is zinc oxide. I have used a number of zinc based natural sunscreens and most of them are rather thick and hard to absorb into the skin. The Marie Veronique sunscreen is thinner….more like a lotion than a cream…and actually absorbed in rather quickly. It also has a nice, light scent that I liked. It did not leave my hands greasy after applying it, either.
Now, as with most of the natural sunscreens, this one has to be reapplied every couple of hours, especially after swimming or lots of sweating. It is an SPF 25+ and is water resistant but here in the south with my fair skinned kids, frequent application was a must. I love that it is so safe, though, because using traditional sunscreens on the face is a BIG no-no in my house!
Overall, I really liked this sunscreen!
My thanks to Marie Veronique for allowing me to review their products. If you would like to learn more about them, you can follow along on Facebook and Twitter. You can also check out their blog for more information!
