With Christmas behind us and New Year’s fast approaching I am starting to browse through cookbooks and recipe sites looking for creative appetizer recipes. We have a New Year’s Eve party to go to with some friends of ours who are just as passionate about eating as we are. It should be a great selection of food and I want to find something to wow my friends with. I have come to realize over the last year or so that while the flavors of the food are important, it is equally important that they be presented with a bit of a flourish! I recently received a soapstone appetizer tray from SPARQ Home that is not only incredibly attractive but also functional as well. If you are not familiar with SPARQ Home, here is some information about them from their website:
ABout SPARQ Home
SPARQ Home is committed to using recycled material exclusively to produce energy efficient, earth friendly, gourmet kitchen products.Founders Steve Chavez and Justin English became frustrated with the mass of scrap soapstone leftover from their kitchen countertop business that was ending up in a landfill. The industry was producing more scrap than it could handle so they set out to make lemonade out of lemons.
Why Use Soapstone?
Soapstone has the natural ability to hold both heat and cold and it is one of the most effective natural materials this planet produces for conducting and retaining temperature. Unlike granite or marble, soapstone is the ONLY non-porous, odorless, tasteless, and food safe stone used in the home. SPARQ Home is an ecofriendly choice because they take collected scrap material (like the leftovers from kitchen countertop remodeling) and transform it into beautiful, unique, quality kitchen products.
Soapstone Appetizer Tray
The SPARQ Home soapstone appetizer tray is the perfect addition to your New Year’s Eve party because it allows you to keep cold foods cold or hot foods hot while your guests mingle and socialize. To chill the plate, just put it in the refrigerator or freezer for a few hours before your party and you can heat it up for warm appetizers in the microwave or the oven. The appetizer tray will radiate heat or cold for several hours to help keep your foods at the right temperature. No more warm sushi or cold stuffed mushroom caps! Every plate is unique in terms of color and veining patterns and it is made in the USA.
Is this the best appetizer tray?
So, what did I think of this tray? This is honestly a very beautiful and elegant way to serve food and I love that the owners have come up with such a creative way to use up scraps of material that would otherwise go to waste. The tray is small enough that it doesn’t take up a huge amount of room on your table or countertop but large enough to easily hold a decent amount of food. Since cheese is one of my hugest weaknesses, I decided to use it as a cheese platter for several different varieties. This appetizer tray is also non stick which makes cleanup very easy. It maintains it’s temperature well, is extremely attractive and easy to clean. Overall I am very happy with this appetizer platter and it will come in handy not only at a New Year’s Eve party but for entertaining the whole year through.
