In the last year or so, my husband has gotten very interested in the acai berry! He loves to find acai juice in the grocery store (boy is that pricey!) and I have even started seeing acai supplements in the vitamin isle! Well, VeeV is an acai liquor that goes great in a number of mixed drink recipes and even tastes wonderful all by itself. If you are not familiar with VeeV, here is some information about it from their website:

Açaí (pronounced ah-SIGH-ee) is the exotic tasting Brazilian national fruit popularized by surfers and sports enthusiasts, and is thought to be the healthiest fruit on the planet. Packed with nutrients, this purple berry tastes like an exotic blend of dark berries plus the added benefit of 57% more antioxidants than pomegranates or blueberries, and 30 times more heart-healthy anthocyanins than red wine.

So, how did I use my wonderful bottle of VeeV Acai Spirits that I received for review? Check out this great  Superfruit Sangria recipe!

Superfruit Sangria

Ingredients:

1/2 ounce of Pomegranate juice
1 ounce Cranberry juice
1 1/2 ounces red wine
1 1/2 ounce Veev Acai spirits

Directions:

Shake all ingredients well with ice and transfer to a brandy or rocks glass. Garnish with fresh seasonal fruit. OR, if you want to make it in bulk: 1 part Pomegranate juice, 2 parts Cranberry juice, 3 parts wine, 3 parts VeeV. Put into a large  pitcher and chill.

SO, my opinion? Okay, this recipe was awesome! I had friends over to share it with me so I made a whole pitcher full. The sangria was wonderfully tart but didn’t give you that bitter ‘I just sucked on a lemon’ feel!

I tried the VeeV spirits by themselves on the rocks as well to get a feel for what it tastes like straight and was pleasantly surprised that alone, it actually has a bit of sweetness to it. You can really taste the acai in it, it isn’t masked by the alcohol at all!

Overall, a wonderfully unique addition to my liquor cabinet! Whether you like to enjoy it straight or in a mixed drink, I think this is a very versatile spirit! And this is a very ecofriendly company!VeeV donates $1 per bottle sold to Rainforest preservation through The Sustainable Açaí Project and is proud to be the only certified carbon neutral spirits company in the world. That is pretty impressive! Also, the bottle is made from partially recycled glass and printed with soy ink. They use wind energy and a special distillation process that uses about 200% less energy than traditional distilling methods!

  1. Interesting. The Acai berry is really good. I honestly make the BEST Sangria. People always call and ask for my recipe. I put a lot more in my recipe than what you did but I would love to try the VeeV. Where can I get some?
