I am a huge fan of buying things second hand. Not only is it a great way to save money but it also reduces your carbon footprint. Buying used means fewer items end up thrown away in our landfills and it saves the raw materials that would have been used to make that item brand new. When you buy used, you reduce the amount of energy used in the production, manufacturing, and transportation of the new item. Not to mention the fact that you can skip all that packaging waste! New items always seem to come wrapped in plastic, boxed up, on hangers, etc. While cruising garage sales is a fun weekend pastime, it is often difficult to find specific items that you may be looking for. That is where sites like Auctionopia can help!
Auctionopia is an online marketplace designed to simplify the communication between buyers and sellers. In order to make the bidding process easier, they utilize instant messaging to allow communication during the sale to make the negotiating process easier.
There are no listing fees or hidden costs to use this site. You can list anything on Auctionopia for free (with the exception of shipping and handling) unless you want to “enhance” the position or visibility of your listing. Here is a brief video about how the process works:
It is very simple to use. Just click on the Join Auctionopia button to create a new account and fill out the online form. If you want to use Auctionopia to sell your own items, you will need a Paypal account. There is a simple form to fill out to provide details of your item and you can upload up to 5 pictures to go with it. There are detailed explanations on the site to help you with the process.
If you want to BUY on Auctionopia there is a handy search box to help you find the item you are looking for. You can find antiques, books, technology items, and many other types of goods. It is easy to review not only product details but also the sellers themselves. Each item is listed with the following information:
- Item Name:
- Auction Type: (traditional or instant auction)
- User Status: You can see the status of seller; either as offline or active.
- Current Bid: You can see the highest bidding price of product.
- Time Left: You can see the total time (in days, hours, minutes and seconds) left that is available for you to bid on that product.
If you win the auction, you get an email in your registered email account and in the Inbox section of your Auctionopia account. If you have any questions about an item you are interested in bidding on, you can contact the seller to discuss them.
The Auctionopia site has plenty of detailed information to walk you through the buying and selling processes. They also have a zero tolerance policy on fraud and they take security very seriously!
So, if you are trying to save money and lead a more eco-friendly lifestyle, consider purchasing items secondhand through Auctionopia. You will be doing a great service to our environment AND your wallet!
