25 Popular Recipes from Turning the Clock Back and My New Year Food Goals

This post about my most popular recipes has been sponsored by Glam Media but all opinions expressed here are my own.

If you have been following my blog for a while you will have learned a few key things about the type of foods I enjoy. In my popular recipes this year I have tried to show my readers how to reduce the fat in things by adding yogurt instead of more fattening ingredients  I have showed you ways to hide nutritious things in your recipes so your kids don’t know they are eating healthy. I have shared my love of desserts, my passion for cheese and my weakness for a select few processed foods. I am not a saint when it comes to the food I eat. While I usually leave the grocery store with a ton of fresh, organic produce I have also left with bags of M&M’s, Cheetos and the occasional box of TGI Friday’s baked potato skins. All things in moderation, right? I have been determined from day one to keep it real with my readers. Yes, I enjoy creating healthy meals with organic, locally raised foods. But, a girl cannot live by bean sprouts and tofu alone, right?

Popular Recipes from Turning the Clock Back

Some of my popular recipes are incredibly healthy but some are strictly meant to be enjoyed for the sheer pleasure of eating them. No guilt necessary just because it is full of chocolate or topped with whipped cream. Tomorrow you can eat some organic carrot sticks to alleviate your guilt. I wanted to share with you a few of my food goals for the next year and encourage you to follow along on my path to healthier eating. And, when I slip and dip into the bag of Cheetos I hope you forgive my weakness. Most likely it was brought on by the stress of dealing with hormonal teenagers and a car that has no heat in December.

Food Goals for 2014:

1. Explore the idea of fasting for health.  I guess this is actually an ANTI food goal? I would like to explore complete fasting vs. juice fasts. Being hypoglycemic makes true fasting difficult but I think there are a few benefits to cleansing the digestive tract occasionally.

2. Try a raw diet for 1 week. I would like to know what all the fuss is about. Can I live without cooking anything at all for a week? I will have to do this one alone. No way the family is going to do it with me and that will be tough. Can I eat a plate of salad while they are eating homemade macaroni and cheese? Can I actually MAKE that mac and cheese without nibbling on the cheese? I admit it, I am weak.

3. Explore more ethnic cuisine:  I love the flavors and spices associated with ethnic recipes but sometimes finding the right ingredients can be challenging. I need to visit a few ethnic grocery stores to see what I can find. And if I can identify it.

4. Reduce meat consumption more:  While we are good about doing a vegetarian meal at least once or twice a week I would like to have a few more meatless dishes to add to the rotation. My kids would happily eat homemade macaroni and cheese every night but it isn’t exactly the best way to continue to fit into my pants.

Have you created any food goals for the new year? Have you decided that you want to include more healthy and natural ingredients in your cooking? I hope some of my popular recipes will help you along the path to culinary greatness. Or, at least help you create a meal your kids won’t turn their noses up at! Below you will find a collection of my post popular recipes that have all been posted on Foodie. Let me know what you think of them if you decide to try any. Have fun in the kitchen….try new ingredients, buy another cookbook, hand your significant other a wooden spoon and give your kids an apron. And if you create something not quite edible or your kids drop eggs on the floor, that is okay too. Clean it up, throw it out and try again! Cooking is a journey and while the destination can be delicious, half the fun is getting there!
