If you have never made your own pudding from scratch, let me assure you that it is NOT difficult! You do not need to rely on that little box from the grocery store filled with artificial colors and flavors. This Pumpkin Pie Homemade Pudding Recipe will bring you a delicious taste of fall without all the fake ingredients of the boxed stuff!

Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes


  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup corn starch
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 (15 ounce) can of pumpkin puree
  • 3 TBSP butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • pinch salt


  1. In a large sauce pan combine milk, sugar and corn starch. Whisk until mixed. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until mixture begins to boil and thicken. Cook an addition 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the 3 eggs. Slowly add half the milk mixture while whisking continuously.
  3. Pour the egg mixture back into the sauce pan, continuing to whisk until it is well blended. Cook 3 minutes, stirring constantly until thick and bubbly
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Add pumpkin, butter, vanilla, pumpkin pie spice and salt. Whisk until smooth and completely combined.
  6. Let cool to slightly and then refrigerate until completely chilled 1 to 2 hours.
