I have been known to procrastinate about a lot of things in my life. When company is coming, I am frantically cleaning the bathroom 5 minutes before they arrive. Deadlines are met just barely some days because I put off getting started on the project. And weekend grocery shopping is often done at 8 PM on a Sunday night. I put off a lot of things because I just don’t want to get started on them. But, when my kid has a sniffle or tells me he has a sore throat, within minutes he is gargling with salt water, taking vitamins and under the covers being told to take a nap. I don’t procrastinate when it comes to kick-starting the immune system when a cold starts, whether it’s for me or my kids. Do you wonder why vitamin C is important? Boosting the immune system with vitamin C gives your body the tools it needs to fight off infections so you can keep up with your day to day life.
Why Vitamin C is Important for a Healthy Immune System
Vitamin C is an antioxidant. Antioxidants help combat free radicals which helps your body fight off infection better. Low vitamin C levels may result in more frequent infections as well as longer illnesses since your body can’t fight back as easily. There are a number of reasons that people’s vitamin C levels drop but getting older and being under a lot of stress are two big reasons for low vitamin C levels. But, now that we know why vitamin C is important, we can easily work to boost those levels to help combat infection.
When people think about sources of vitamin C they usually think of citrus fruits. Sure, a glass of orange juice is a great way to get more vitamin C but it is certainly not the ONLY way. Papaya, strawberries, pineapple, pomegranates, kiwifruit, cantaloupe, and raspberries are also excellent vitamin C sources. And there are also many vegetables that are loaded with vitamin C. Bell peppers, Brussels sprouts, and dark green, leafy vegetables are good sources of vitamin C as well. Of course, you can also get more vitamin C through supplements which I include in my diet daily. Taking a vitamin C supplement can come in the way of a regular vitamin or great tasting Ricola Herbal Immunity Lozenges.
Ricola Herbal Immunity Lozenges are the first widely available immunity product in the US that fights fatigue, while also supporting the immune system. You can choose from Honey Herb Lozenges or Citrus Herb Lozenges. They contain no artificial flavors or colors and are free of genetically modified ingredients. You can find them in CVS, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid stores nationwide. You can even give them to children over 4 years. Take 4 drops daily for 7 days, which will give maximum potency.
There are many health benefits of vitamin C but the boost in immune system function is definitely important to me during this time of year. Colds and an assortment of nasty illnesses are making their way through the schools, which means my kids bring home a ton of germs. Eating healthy, taking my vitamins and getting enough sleep are easy ways for me to keep my immune system strong. And I am happy to procrastinate on the grocery shopping if it means I can take a nap and enjoy a cup of tea!

I would love to try the Honey Herb version, I could use a little more vitamin C in my diet. This would be a great booster for me.
This is great information! I started taking Vitamin C years ago because my mom recommended it, but I didn’t really know what I was doing and ended up taking huge pills. I later learned that I was taking too much. I’m glad to see that there’s a new way to get the Vitamin C you need without going overboard. That Honey Herb flavor looks yummy.
I find that the large pills upset my stomach so finding sources of smaller amounts throughout the day is helpful for me!
I’m a big fan of fruits. Strawberries would be my favorite source of vitamin C.
I love how delicious these little products are. They make the most unique herb-flavored Vitamin C lozenges.
I didn’t realize that so many of my favorite fruits and veggies are good sources of Vitamin C. I’ve never heard of these immunity lozenges but now I’ll have to try them.
Ricola Herbal Immunity Lozenges sound like a great addition to my medicine cabinet this Autumn. Hopefully if we try adding more vitamin C into our bodies we can avoid needing all the other medicines!
