Have you seen those Facebook posts that shout ‘Only 6 Fridays left before Christmas!’ or some such nonsense? Really? Do I need that kind of stressful reminder that I am already behind on my holiday to-do list and we just started November? Seriously, the holidays seems to arrive in this whirling chaos that leaves me completely shattered by the time January gets here. I am trying hard to make a list, stay organized and shop early but I either need more hours in my day or more energy to tackle the things that have to get done. Sure, cutting back on the to do list is also a great idea but we have 2 kids with holiday birthdays (Thanksgiving and New Years Eve) and company coming and there are only so many shortcuts I can take. If you need more energy to tackle the things that MUST get done this holiday season, here are a few tips on how to boost energy levels when the holiday chaos strikes!

How to Boost Energy Levels

Increase Your Magnesium Intake

According to WebMD, magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including breaking down glucose into energy. Without enough magnesium, you may fall short on energy! Eating a balanced diet and taking a multivitamin is a great start but you can also add magnesium-rich foods into your diet. Nuts, whole grains, and fish are all high in magnesium as well as leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, beans and bananas.

Take a Power Nap

Seriously, if you are wondering how to boost energy levels, learn how to take a power nap. I nap several times a week and it helps me stay refreshed for the late afternoon and evening chaos. The key is to SET A TIMER and stick to a schedule. I lay down and read for 15 minutes to unwind. Then, set the timer for 45 minutes. 15 minutes to fall asleep and 30 minutes of actual napping. You think you can’t afford to take off an hour? I promise you will be MUCH more productive after a nap than you would be without one.

Have a protein power snack

Snacking is not a bad thing, provided you are giving your body what it really needs to stay energized. Want to know how to boost energy levels? Protein. Protein snacks are great for staying energized when holiday chaos strikes. Make a smoothie with a banana and some protein powder. Eat some trail mix. Grab a protein packed power bar. Have a cheese stick or some beef jerky. Protein is a great way to boost energy levels.

Get more exercise

You may think that exercise will use up all the energy you have but the opposite is actually true. Incorporating regular exercise into your routine will actually boost energy levels. It boosts the spread of oxygen and nutrients through your body, which then increases energy. Feeling tired? Take a quick stroll around the neighborhood. Run up and down the stairs in the house or park really far away from Target when you shop. More exercise means more energy to tackle your to-do list!
