With Christmas fast approaching, everyone is starting to shop for gifts that would be just perfect for each person on their list. I am truly blessed with a nice house, wonderful family, and fuzzy slippers to wear when the weather gets cold. What else could a mom need, right? Well, if you are a mom who happens to live in a rural part of a poor country maybe instead of fuzzy slippers you need a few chickens. And instead of the latest technological toy you might prefer a goat to provide milk for your family. World Vision lets you give this type of gift to people who aren’t as blessed as you might be. When you make your donation, you can also get a little something for yourself (or a friend!) like adorable plush animals or artisan jewelry . What is World Vision, you ask? Here is a little bit about them from their website:
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. The millions of people we serve include earthquake and hurricane survivors, abandoned and exploited children, survivors of famine and civil war, refugees, and children and families in communities devastated by AIDS in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our extensive global infrastructure enables us to respond where the need is greatest, anywhere in the world.
Whether it’s for the tax deduction or the warm fuzzy feeling giving to others generates, most Americans plan to make a charitable donation over the holiday season. In fact, nearly 60 percent of Americans say they’ll donate between Thanksgiving and Christmas, according to a survey reported in the Chronicle of Philanthropy. With World Vision, you can make a donation to a family who is really struggling. You can choose to support someone either here in the US or abroad. You can also choose the TYPE of donation you would like to make…whether you want to help provide clean drinking water, a few chickens, education for a child or many other categories. There are also many price ranges to choose from so don’t think you have to spend a ton of money (although I am sure that would be appreciated!). Every donation matters, no matter how small!
If you don’t know exactly where your donation would do the most good, you can choose to donate to the World Vision Gift Catalog Maximum Impact Fund. You can select one of 36 Maximum Impact items that can be given to a loved one and at the same time help a person in need. You can choose to give your family members or friends a gift from the World Vision Catalog and by doing so you will be helping provide funds for areas that are struggling to provide the most basic of necessities. Items like Fair Trade coffee, silk scarves, hand carved Christmas ornaments and many other unique items would make this holiday special not only for YOUR gift recipient but for someone else, as well.
The Jingle Jubilee Giveaway
For my review I was sent the Artisan Beaded Necklace to try out. This glass-bead necklace is handmade in Thailand and can be worn several different ways — even as a multi-strand bracelet. Approximate size of this necklace is 44″ around or 22″ long when worn as a single necklace. The colors of the beads may vary slightly in each necklace given that it is hand made and each one is unique. It is perfect for the fashionista on your shopping list!
I absolutely loved this unique piece of jewelry. You can wear it either as a necklace (double or single stranded) or as a bracelet as shown above if you wrap it several times around your wrist. The glass beads are extremely vibrant in color and they are all strung together securely on a flexible string that seems to be a cross between coated string and wire. It is very flexible without being flimsy. This seems like a very well made piece of jewelry and I love the beautiful splash of color it gives my outfit.
If you are considering making a charitable donation this holiday season, I really recommend you check out World Vision. Your donation will go towards a good cause and you can gift this jewelry to someone on your Christmas list!
To help those affected by Superstorm Sandy during the week of November 26th, any gift of food, clothing or school supplies for children in the U.S. given through World Vision’s Gift Catalog (www.worldvisiongifts.org) will be designated for the Christian humanitarian agency’s Sandy relief efforts.
