Have you ever looked at your daily calendar and been overwhelmed by the number of things listed on it for the day. Pink highlights to remind you that kid 1 has a doctor appointment that morning.

Blue highlights so you don’t forget to pick your son up from tennis practice after school. Notes about what to pick up at the grocery store and an asterisk next to the dry cleaner note because your husband cannot wait one more day for his good suit.

Where the heck in that mess is an hour penciled in for your workout? Or even 30 minutes to make a healthy dinner instead of grabbing takeout? Again. Think you don’t have time to consider getting healthy? No time for workouts or cooking from scratch? Think again! Here are some tips on how to get healthy in only 5 minutes per day!

Invest in a slow cooker:

Eating out is one of the worst things you can do for your health. Not to mention the fact that you waste a ton of money as well. But, I get it. Evenings are busy. Kids have homework, husbands have late meetings, dogs have vet appointments and you are just really too tired to cook.

That is where your friend the slow cooker comes in. Sure, some slow cooker meals require a lot of prep and attention. However, there are entire websites dedicated to 5-minute slow cooker meals. Dump in frozen chicken breasts and a jar of BBQ sauce. Turn it on. Go to work.

When you get home, microwave a potato and frozen veggies. There you go. 5 minutes to a healthy dinner and you saved yourself a ton of calories by skipping the drive through.

Go for a 5-minute run:

Want to know how to get healthy in a hurry? Strap on those running shoes for a whopping 5 minutes. Okay, you probably think a 5-minute run is a waste of time, right? NOPE! Did you know that scientists have actually shown that 5 minutes of vigorous exercise can actually reduce your risk of dying prematurely?

Yup. Just 5 minutes of running every day can help you get healthier. Don’t tell me you hate it. If you can suffer through 30 minutes of a dental cleaning because it is good for you, you can darn well run for 5 minutes without it killing you.

Start a new habit:

Did you know that it takes about 3 weeks to develop a new habit? Just 5 minutes a day for 3 weeks can have you ditching an old (bad) habit and developing new, healthy habits. What sort of habit can you start in 5 minutes a day?

How about just a change in your breakfast routine? Do you start your day with a soda and a bagel? A ton of people do! How about switching that out for water and a bowl of granola with fruit? Maybe make up a batch of overnight oats the night before and eat that right out of the fridge with some nuts or dried fruit?

Choose foods at the grocery store that will make getting healthy easier. The easiest way to get healthy in a hurry is to skip bringing the junk food into the house at all. Stock your pantry with foods that are quick to grab and loaded with nutrition.

Don’t skip your supplements:

Vitamins and supplements fill in the gaps where our nutritional choices fall short. Giving our bodies the right vitamins and minerals every day keeps us going strong, even when life wants to knock us back down again.

One supplement you really should add to your diet is a probiotic. Probiotics are living microorganisms that keep our gut healthy and a huge part of our immunity comes from our gut. That means a healthier stomach means a healthier YOU and it can be achieved in only a few minutes per day! (Read my post about how to take pills if you can’t swallow them if you hate taking vitamins)

  1. I second the slow cooker. This has been a life saver when avoiding fast food due to crazy schedules. We also love being outdoors for walks.

  2. Those are all great tips, thanks. I do like crockpot recipes that are very quick to throw together in the morning. I haven’t ever tried overnight oats, I’m not sure if my sons would like it. I never knew running for even just 5 minutes would make a difference. I wonder if it’s longer for walking?
