Growing up, my mom always seemed to be battling her weight. I vowed early on that I would take better care of myself so that hopefully I would never have to go through the lifelong struggles that she has. I try to be careful with what I eat and exercise when I can but as I approach 40 it is getting harder and harder to stay at my target weight. With swimsuit season fast approaching, it is time to get serious about losing that 10 extra pounds that has snuck up on me! I recently received the iHealth Digital Scale from Best Buy to try out.

The iHealth Digital Scale works with an app that you can easily install on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch to help you keep track of your weight and caloric intake on a day to day basis. It will also allow you to calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) and set target goals to help you in your weight loss journey. This scale requires 4 AAA batteries and an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch with an operating system of 4.0 or higher. Here are the actual dimensions of the scale itself:

  • Product Height 1 ½”
  • Product Width 13”
  • Product Weight 4.4 lbs
  • Product Depth 13”

So, how did this scale actually work for me?

First things first was the installation of the batteries…very simple! Then, onto the installation of the app on my iPad. I had no issues finding it in the App Store and download was quick. You need to go into your device settings and make sure that Bluetooth is enabled (mine already was) and sync it with the device. No problems there either. After the settings are configured and the app is installed and open, you just turn the scale on with a touch of your toe and you are ready to go. It automatically sends your weight to the app and logs it in under the correct day.

The app allows you to do more than just track your weight. There is a calorie counter with a preinstalled list of foods so you can keep track of how many calories your are taking in on a daily basis. I admit, this isn’t a function I will probably use, mainly because I just don’t count calories! I hate to measure food and do math when it comes to my diet but if you DO include this as part of your weight loss program the app will be a big help. It seems to have quite a wide variety of foods included in it.

In terms of accuracy of the scale it seems to be fairly close to what the doctor’s office told me on my last physical a couple of months ago. My previous home scale usually tells me a couple of pounds lighter but that could be the clothing factor and time of day. I think it seems pretty accurate, at least for me.

You do not NEED to use the app to use this scale. It will work as a digital scale without any accessories at all. It seems very stylish and the surface area is bigger than the one I have now.

Overall, I am very pleased with this scale so far. Installation of the app was easy and there is a lot of information within the app FAQ to help you with your weigh loss journey. The scale itself is attractive and I like that it can keep your daily data in it’s memory so that you don’t have to sinc it with the app on a daily basis. When you DO sinc them, the data from the scale will automatically upload. I think this is going to be a great addition to my my attempt at weight loss in the coming months!

  5. Very cool. I love it that a lot of these devices have apps that go with them. The scale that you have, for instance is much more effective with all the features the app provides.
