Watermelon Margaritas

What alcohol is in a watermelon margarita?

For a refreshing watermelon margarita, just mix watermelon and lime juice with tequila.  It is that simple!  This frosty summer cocktail is a delicious way to sip away the afternoon.  Because of the sweetness of the watermelon, this margarita doesn’t need much sugar on the rim. Go with salt for a balance of sweet and salty! If you are looking for more summer cocktail ideas, check out my  pomegranate margarita.

How To Make a Spicy Watermelon Margarita

Jalapeno-infused tequila is the best way to make a spicy watermelon margarita.  Just add a few fresh, sliced jalapenos with seeds to a mason jar.  After that, top it with tequila and let it sit for a few weeks.  Then, when you want to make your watermelon margarita, just replace the regular tequila with the spicy version.  If you love this refreshing watermelon margarita, check out Liquor.com for more cocktail recipes.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons sugar (I used those fancy rim sugars you buy in a tin...the one for Cosmos!)
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 3 1/2 cups cubed seeded watermelon
  • 1/2 cup tequila
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice (I used 1/4 cup...I love lime!)
  • 1 tablespoon Triple Sec (orange-flavored liqueur)
  • Lime wedges or watermelon balls (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place 2 teaspoons sugar in a saucer. Rub the rims of 6 glasses with 1 lime wedge; spin rim of each glass in sugar to coat. Set prepared glasses aside.
  2. Combine watermelon and next 4 ingredients (through Triple Sec) in a blender; process until smooth. Fill each prepared glass with 1/2 cup crushed ice. Add 1/2 cup margarita to each glass. Garnish with lime wedges or melon balls, if desired.
