Morning Comes EARLY!
Every morning, my husband leaves for work at 6 AM. And every day (or just about every day) he walks out the door with his handy, dandy little lunch box. No, it doesn’t have cartoon characters on it like it did when he was a kid.
But, nevertheless, it contains a healthy lunch along with real silverware and a cloth napkin. He has been doing this ever since we were young and poor and had no choice but to pack lunches from home. Now that we make more money, he STILL brings a lunch from home every day. Why pack a lunch for work, you ask? Well, here are a few very good reasons.
Why Pack a Lunch for Work
Packing a lunch from home is MUCH cheaper
Lunch at a sandwich shop will run you $7 or $8 generally. More for a good restaurant, less if you hit a fast food joint. But, no matter where you go, packing a lunch from home is much cheaper. Whether you bring leftovers from dinner or a sandwich and chips, save yourself money and bring your lunch from home.
You save yourself time
Why pack a lunch, you ask? Do you like sitting in your car trying to get to a restaurant in lunchtime traffic? Do you like standing in line or idling in the drive through? No. Those things are no fun and take away from your actual time to eat. Snarfing your food down quickly to get back to work is not good for your digestion. Save time and pack a lunch from home!
Decrease your impact on food waste
Food waste is a huge issue in today’s society. You have a ton of leftovers in your fridge. Will you use them all up by the time they go bad? Why pack a lunch, you ask? So you don’t end up throwing away a lot of perfectly good food!
Quality and taste are better
Unless you are eating at a really good restaurant for lunch (and spending a fortune), you will be getting better tasting and higher quality food by bringing it from home. That soggy vending machine sandwich or slightly too greasy fish fillet isn’t really that appealing, are they? Packing a lunch from home means that you control the ingredients and how fresh they are.
You will eat healthier
When I go into a restaurant, I look at the menu and see salads. Then I see cheese and bacon-smothered hamburgers. Which do you think I get? Right. I am not ordering the salad. Of course, I should. I know it is better for me. But the unhealthy stuff just looks too tempting. Pack something healthy from home and your waistline will thank you!

Packing a lunch for work is the best when you’re trying to save money. It costs SO much to buy lunch everyday. Even if you get it somewhere super cheap!
My husband, kids and I all bring lunch from home. It is much cheaper, and it does help cut down on food waste since my husband brings the leftovers for lunch. It is definitely much healthier. We eat Healthy Choice Steamers, but I haven’t seen that kind yet. Thanks for the info.
Back when I was a 9 to 5er, I always took a lunch with me. It saves so much money. I wish these had been around back then. I was taking much less healthy microwave options with me back then.
My husband and I pack lunch every day for work! I am clear out of ideas and tired of taking leftovers to work. Thanks for the awesome ideas!
Oooh, I like the sounds of that Noodle Bowl! I couldn’t agree more. Back when I was working outside the house, it was so much cheaper if I brought/packed my lunch!
I always pack my daughter and husband lunches for when they have school and work. It’s so expensive having to buy lunch on a regular basis, and we are on a set budget. I always make extra when cooking dinners throughout the week, and they eat the leftovers I pack them. It helps us save money.
